Introduction to Rotary Valves

Rotary valves are commonly referred to as a rotary feeder, rotary vane feeder or an airlock feeder. This precision-engineered valve precisely doses dry powder or granular products from a storage hopper or chute into a process below. Meticulously machined to minimize air leakage losses through the rotor, the rotary feeder is available in two general types: drop-through and blow-through feeders.
Feeding & Conveying with Drop-Through Rotary Valves
In a drop-through rotary feeder, the product stored above fills the rotor’s pockets. As the rotor turns and a filled pocket reaches the open flanged discharge, the material gracefully descends under gravity into the process below. While suitable for pneumatic conveying, a drop-through type necessitates a feeding tee, enabling the product to seamlessly integrate into the airflow within the conveying system.
Blow-Through Rotary Valve in Pneumatic Conveying Systems
Primarily utilized for pneumatic conveying, the blow-through rotary valve connects pressurized air supply to one end and the conveying line to the other. As the rotor turns, contents under gravity are exposed to the air stream, becoming suspended. In pneumatic conveying, the pressure differential between the underside & above the rotary vane feeder causes air leakage, affecting performance.
